Welcome to SecHuman

SecHuman is a graduate school focusing on Security for People in Cyberspace from an inter- and transdisciplinary perspective. 13 PhD students with technical as well as backgrounds in humanities explore issues in IT-Security. Companies as well as partners from politics serve as advisors, making sure that the questions in focus are of relevance for society. Besides the technical disciplines, researchers from various fields including education, journalism, linguistics, media science, peace research, as well as social science serve as principal investigators in the project. The graduate school is part of the Horst Görtz Institute, one of leading institute in IT-Security. The graduate school SecHuman is funded by the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research (MIWF). Besides the Ruhr University also the FH Dortmund as well as the TU Dortmund are partners in this project.

[08.08.2017] The SecHu­man Sum­mer School en­t­it­led Thema "Usa­ble Se­cu­ri­ty and Pri­va­cy" took place from July 31st until Au­gust 3rd at the Ruhr-Uni­ver­si­ty Bo­chum. The first three days dealt with the Topic Usa­ble Se­cu­ri­ty, which looks at the im­pro­ve­ment of Usa­bi­li­ty of IT-Se­cu­ri­ty Tools. The wel­co­me ad­dress was given by HGI Pro­fes­sor Chris­tof Paar fol­lo­wed by a pre­sen­ta­ti­on by Prof. Jason Hong of the Car­ne­gie Mel­lon Uni­ver­si­ty. His talk di­s­cus­sed the so­ci­al fac­tors of Cy­ber­se­cu­ri­ty. Sub­se­quent­ly Prof. Ma­thew Smith from the Bonn Uni­ver­si­ty and Dr. Eliz­a­beth Sto­bert gave pre­sen­ta­ti­ons as well. The next two days were held by Prof. An­ge­la Sasse (UCL Lon­don) who de­di­ca­ted a com­ple­te teaching mo­du­le to the sum­mer school. Prof. An­ge­la Sasse is one of the foun­ders of the re­se­arch area Usa­ble Se­cu­ri­ty. Last but not least, the topic Pri­va­cy was pre­sen­ted and di­s­cus­sed by Pro­fes­sor Rie­sen­hu­ber and Prof. Ro­sen­kranz of the Ruhr Uni­ver­si­ty as well as Prof. Gost­om­zyk (TU Dort­mund) and Dr. Beh­ling (Layer ant WTS Legal). We thank the par­ti­ci­pants for their ac­tive par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on and the spea­kers for the tre­men­dous amount of work they put in de­ve­lo­ping and pre­sen­ting their re­se­arch.
